Robin goes online!

Updated on: 1 March 2007

www.robinhood.co.uk will go live 1st March. The new website is a one-stop shop for information on the Sherwood: the Living Legend lottery bid and the 2007 Robin Hood Festival.

Robin and his merry website

For the first time the public can find out detailed information about the lottery bid that is being submitted to the BIG Lottery Fund in May.

The new site will also offer people the opportunity to ask any questions about the bid and share their photos of Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest with the rest of the world.

Austin Brady, Chair of the Sherwood: The living legend management board said: “We’re really pleased with our new interactive website. It will be a key communication tool for us. By it’s nature this lottery bid is a fast moving project – so it’s vital we have a way of keeping everyone up to date. It’s also a great way of consulting with people and getting their feedback too, something we’re very committed to doing.

“We’ve also got details of all the events taking place at Sherwood Forest – including the Robin Hood Festival.

“We hope people will register their e-mail address and mobile phone number to receive updates on the project. We’ve recently learned that the public vote is now likely to be in December, so it’s really important so we can e-mail or text people to tell them how and when to vote for Sherwood: the living legend.”

The Sherwood: the Living Legend lottery bid has four key components – they are:

Heart of Sherwood

The existing visitors centre has to be moved by 2010 to protect the fragile ecology of the forest. Our plan is to build a new and iconic visitor complex on nearby farmland, the ‘Tree’ will be built with cutting-edge sustainable technology and be linked to the ancient forest by a raised walkway. Learn about Robin Hood, the ancient oaks, find out where to go and what to see in the wider Sherwood area, enjoy a meal, or take in the spectacular view from the treetop viewing deck, overlooking the tops of the glorious Sherwood Oaks.

Access in and around Sherwood

Better connections to 250 kilometres of walking, riding and cycling routes , 95 kilometres of which is new. The new Sherwood network will be linked to the national cycle network and 20 railway stations with access to the new visitor complex and local towns, villages and visitor attractions. This wide reaching network will connect Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Re-creating Sherwood

Helping to return the Forest to its former glory by creating300 hectares (400 football pitches!) of new woodland, heathland and wetlands to improve the look and feel of the whole Sherwood landscape and restore precious wildlife habitat.

Sherwood: A sense of pride and place

Sherwood: The Living Legend is an opportunity to celebrate the unique character and local distinctiveness of the communities who live in and around the most famous forest in the world. The project will enable local people to work together to enhance their the towns and villages. The 50 schemes will vary from new community designed signs to wildflower and tree planting, village walks and trails to improving local arts and cultural facilities.
