What is Living Landmarks?
In June 2006 the BIG Lottery Fund launched Living Landmarks, a UK wide programme aimed at encouraging communities to work together to improve their quality of life and their environment through funding major projects.
BIG wanted Living Landmarks to capture the imagination of communities, and inspire them to transform, revitalise and regenerate the places where they live.
There are two parts to Living Landmarks. A number of small grants between £10m - £25m will be awarded.
Sherwood: The Living Legend is part of the second scheme which is being run in partnership with the People’s Millions programme. Just one grant of up to £50m will be awarded to a single project of regional, national and international significance - and the public decide who gets the cash via a TV vote on ITV in Autumn 2007.
This scheme received over 300 applications. In August 2006 BIG whittled the numbers down to just six. The winning project will be decided by a national TV vote in late 2007.
